What’s the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?
In short, all dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are dietitians.
A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a regulated health professional, and the title is protected in Canada. To become a dietitian, you need a four-year university degree in nutrition and dietetics, complete supervised practical training, pass a national licensing exam, and stay current through mandatory continuing education.
A nutritionist, on the other hand, is an unregulated title in most provinces, meaning anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. There are many nutritionists who are well educated and competent.
What can I expect from sessions?
Your first appointment will be 60 minutes. We’ll explore your goals, health history, current eating patterns, and lifestyle. I like to get a clear idea of where you are, and where you’d like to be. Then we’ll make a plan for topics we will cover together over the coming sessions. I like to start with a few action steps to get you started.
Follow-ups involve a check-in to relfect on wins and challenges, any changes since we last met, and answer any burning questions you might have. Then we dive into the topic of the day based on our plan or your evolving needs. We end with setting realistic goals and intentions until the next session.
Your plan and journey is unique to you – there is no “one size fits all” approach to a healthy diet.
Do you offer in-person or virtual appointments?
Currently all appointments are virtual and available to anyone who resides in Ontario, New Brunswick, or Nova Scotia.
Do you offer meal plans?
Yes, I offer optional customized meal plans based on your health needs, preferences, and goals. Meal plans can be structured or flexible, based on what you’re looking for. We usually build the meal plan together, with the goal of helping you gain the skill of learning how to plan your meals that you can use for a lifetime.
